Images of America, Hidalgo County Texas

I am currently reading the book by Karen Gerhardt and Rod Santa Ana III titled “Images of America, Hidalgo County Texas”. I want to thank my friend Juan Lino Garza for lending it to me. If your family has deep or recent rots to Hidalgo County I highly recomend this little 128 page book. It contains information form the early colonial period up until the 1920′s and 30′s. Not to mentioned that it is mostly all pictures.

This book is comprised mostly of old photos of Hidalgo county and it’s people. The pictures provide an excellent window to this county’s historical past and development. I highly suggest it. It contains a whole chapter dedicated to Mexican American Families. Continue reading

Joseph Gonzalez Hidalgo and Maria Rita Guerra, 1734 Marriage in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

The following is the transcription to the 1734 marriage of my wife’s sixth great grandparents Joseph Gonzalez Hidalgo and Maria Rita Guerra. They married in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. They were the parents of my wife’s 5th great grandmother Maria Ynes Gonzalez. The great thing about this document is that it lists both of their parents. The parents of Joseph are Capitan Lucas Gonzalez Hidalgo and Michaela Garcia Dabila, both deceased at the time of the marriage. Rita’s parents are listed as Xptoval Guerra and Nicolasa Baez Trevino. Turns out that Xptoval and Nicolasa are also my 7th Great Grandparents.

Eight Generations of Vales and Sanchez and Consanguine Zamorano, Curbelo, and Trevino Families

Cover VelezEight Generations of Vales and Sanchez and Consanguine Zamorano Curbelo and Trevino Families, is a very interesting family Genealogy Book. The author starts by describing how she arrived to Rio Grande City and then to La Grulla, Texas. Her story begins with her decision to get a teaching position in La Grulla, Texas back in the 1920′s.

I have yet to fully go over all the names in this book to see if any of my wife’s or even my ancestors are listed in there. I just thought that I let you know about this book since I am sure it will be of interest to anyone who has their roots in La Grulla, Rio Grande City and also other cities and towns of Starr and Hidalgo Counties.

If interested and want to read it, it is available for free at FamilySearch.org. You can download it or view it on the link listed bellow.
