Baptisms of Los Aldamas 1888-1946
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This 429-page eBook contains the index of 7,508 baptisms for Los Aldamas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico that took place between 1888-1946. at the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

This index is a transcription of a prior index that can be found on FamilySearch film number 1410995. This original index is sorted by baptism year and the one in this book is sorted by the children’s last name. Thus it is easier for you to find names within it. Not to mention, the original is in cursive and hard to read to the untrained eye.

This book was made possible by members of the We Are Cousins community and here I list their names. Special thanks go out to Clementina Pederson, Elizabeth Guerra, Ricardo Villarreal, Claudia Quintanilla, Fidel Ramirez, Linda Reyes, Irma Holtkamp, Moises Garza, Leroy Villarreal, Mari Chapa Rivera, and Ruby Arredondo.

The history of Los Adamas can be dated back to the 1770’s and it used to be called “el Puerto de los Hoyos”. Records indicate that by this year a mission was already established there. Even though this mission was stablished we find that the church baptism, marriage, and death records are found among the ones from Cerralvo up until the early 1800’s.

A book that I recommend to anyone with ancestry in Los Aldamas or its surrounding communities is that of Dr. Ruben Dario Pastrana Guerrero. It is titled “Antigua Mission de Guadalupe de los Hoyos”, it is a rare book but many universities have it.

His book mentions that at one point the following communities used to belong to
the parish of Los Aldamas.

  • La Manteca, nowadays Los Herreras, N.L
  • Gachupines, nowadays Congregacion Cantu, N.L.
  • Las Mujeres, nowadays El Barrio, N.L.
  • The ranches of Adjuntas, Mujeres, Ranchito, Zacate and Tecomate in the
    municipality of Dr. Coss, N.L.
  • El Arcabuz, Tamaulipas
  • Los Ramones, N.L.

As you can see, baptisms in this book are from children born in all the above areas. Something to note is that this book does not contain full dates. It only contains the year that the child was baptized, his/her name, name of the father and mother. I also included the film number and that page were you can find it in the original index. I also included the book number and entry number for each baptism. This will come in handy if you ever go in person to the church in Los Adamas to look for a particular baptism record.

Another note is that the following years are missing from this index.

  • 1894-1900
  • 1914
  • 1917
  • 1927-1928

Also, for some years that are included it is obvious that baptisms are missing due to having a very small number of baptisms compared to other years.

FamilySearch does have some baptism records for Los Aldamas but they are scarce. Fortunately for us Dr. Pastrana mentions in his book that in the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in los Aldamas N. L. there are books that contain baptisms from 1833 to the present. This is great since regardless of what FamilySearch has online we now know that there are more records available at this church.

Finally, please excuse the misspellings. It is inevitable that a project of this magnitude will not have misspelled names or last names. An attempt was made to fix them but we are not perfect.

I hope that you find this book useful and thank you for adding it to your genealogical library.
