Are your ancestors form Starr County? Jesus “Chuy” Correa provides a short history of Starr County since colonial times to present times.  His book titled “The Real Stories of Starr County, Rio Grande, Roma, Escobares, La Grulla, and Vicinity 1582 – 1900″ is a great read that provides the reader with the history of Starr county that is not thought anywhere else. This book contains great genealogical information since it contains a list of the first settlers that came with Luis de Carvajal, the Starr County Elected Officials 1848-2012, and the Rio Grande City Elected Officials 1993-2011 among other great valuable information.

Eight Generations of Vales and Sanchez and Consanguine Zamorano, Curbelo, and Trevino Families

Cover VelezEight Generations of Vales and Sanchez and Consanguine Zamorano Curbelo and Trevino Families, is a very interesting family Genealogy Book. The author starts by describing how she arrived to Rio Grande City and then to La Grulla, Texas. Her story begins with her decision to get a teaching position in La Grulla, Texas back in the 1920’s.

I have yet to fully go over all the names in this book to see if any of my wife’s or even my ancestors are listed in there. I just thought that I let you know about this book since I am sure it will be of interest to anyone who has their roots in La Grulla, Rio Grande City and also other cities and towns of Starr and Hidalgo Counties.

If interested and want to read it, it is available for free at FamilySearch.org. You can download it or view it on the link listed bellow.

Names and Photos of 1974 Graduating Class of Rio Grande City Texas

I noticed a few days ago that The Portal To Texas History had recently added a lot of issues of the Rio Grande City Herald.  I thought to my self, lets do a quick search. I entered my father in laws name Heraclio Perez and on the first result I found a picture of him as well as all of the graduates of the Rio Grande City High School Class of 1974. This is the link to the high quality images. Rio Grande City High School Class of 1974. I took the time to transcribe all the names and post them here. Happy browsing!
