Gonzalez - Last Names of Nuevo Leon
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

A very popular last name out there is that of Gonzalez and today I want to tell you about my latest book that focuses on this last name. It is titled "Gonzalez" and is part of my book series Last Names of Nuevo Leon.

Based on research by Tomas Mendirichaga I determined that the first Gonzalez to arrive in Nuevo Leon was Marcos Gonzalez. Turns out that he and his wife Mariana Navarro are my 11th great grandparents.

This book covers The Gonzalez Hidalgo one of the four major Gonzalez lines that can be found in Nuevo Leon.

The parents of Marcos Gonzalez are Juan Gonzalez and Maria Lombrera. He married Mariana Navarro the daughter of Juan Navarro and Maria Rodriguez de Sosa. He married again to Maria Gutierrez de Olea.

Genealogist Tomas Mendirichaga Cueva states that Marcos Gonzalez was one of the oldest colonists of El Nuevo Reino de Leon where he did and married all of his children. He did in the early part of 1642.

Marcos Gonzalez was Alcade (mayor) Ordinario of Monterrey in 1624. It is also interesting to note that his children adopted the last name of Hidalgo after Gonzalez and it is unknown as to where it came from.

This book is an attempt to document the descendants of Marcos Gonzalez and Mariana Navarro. Even at 383 pages, there are many more to be discovered. Research is a never ending endeavor.

This book is about nine generations of their descendants and covers the time period of the 1600s through the middle 1800s. It is 383 pages and is full of genealogical information that includes sources for the facts listed.

Keep in mind, this book as all my others are only tools to help you build your tree. Once you discover a death date, baptism date, and or marriage date get a copy of the original. It is very rewarding to do so and you will learn more details about your ancestors.

Also this book does not include every descendant of theirs since that is impossible, it only includes the ones that I have identified through documents, reliable published, and unpublished works.

  1. Thank you for your help a couple of years ago in providing me with information on my MonteMayor line. I did purchase 2 books from you, the MonteMayor and the Founding Families of Monterrey.
I would like to purchase the Gonzales book, but I need to know if you have these particular Gonzales lines. Francisco Xabier MonteMayor married a Maria Rita Gonzales and his father, Jose Andres MonteMayor married a Maria del Refugio Gonzales. So, are these ladies and their ancestors included in this book? Thanks.
