Nuevo Leon Y La Colonizacion Del Nuevo Santander
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This book, Nuevo Leon Y La Colonizacion Del Nuevo Santander by Don Israel Cavazos Garza is an excellent resource. In it, he explains the process of colonizing El Nuevo Santander nowadays Tamaulipas, Mexico and the steps that Jose de Escandon had to implement.

He explains the important role that Nuevo Leon played in its colonization by helping with it’s greatest asset, it’s people. Last year at the McAllen conference I heard Don Israel state that Nuevo Leon almost stayed without people and he provided some statistics to back up his claim, I thought it was very interesting.

Another thing that is very interesting about this book is that in its appendix it contains lists of the people that colonized certain towns in Nuevo Santander.

Some of my ancestors are in those lists and I am sure some of yours will also be listed there.

This work is more of a Historical book than it is Genealogical but it is a great reference source since it provides the clues where to look for ancestors. I also found that my ancestor Alonso de Leon is also Mentioned in this book and his exploration efforts are talked about. Another ancestor that is mentioned is Jacinto Garcia de Sepulveda.

The following is the index of the book so that you may get an idea of what to expect to find within its pages.

  1. I bought the Nuevo Leon Y La Colonizacion Del Nuevo Santander years ago from Sr. Cavazos Garza himself and have referred to it so many times, it is coming apart!
