Have you traced your family back to Nuevo Leon. If so this book may be of interest to you. This book “Apellidos de Nuevo Leon” was originally written by Tomas Mendirichaga Cueva and transcribed into “Last Names of Nuevo Leon” by Edna Garza Brown back in 1989.
The last names that the author goes into detail are:
- Botello and Buentello – This family tree starts with Capitan Don Juan Buentello Guerrero
- Cavazos – This family tree starts with Capitan Juan Cavazos
- Guerra – This one starts with Ignacio Guerra Canamar
- Hinojosa – Tree starts with Diego de Hinojosa
- Larralde – Starts with General Francisco de Larralde
- Mier – This tree starts with Francisco de Mier Noriega
- Sepulveda – Tree starts with Don Jacinto and Don Bernardo de Sepulveda
- Zambrano – Tree starts with Nicolas Zambrano
With the exception of Mier, Zambrano and Larralde all of the above mentioned last names are in my family tree.

Where to get a hold of this book:
The following image and transcription is of the 1812 marriage of my 5th great grandparents Jose Yrineo Gonzalez Hinojosa and Maria Paula Garcia Gonzalez. They got married in Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. If there are errors in the transcription I apologize but the image is very faded and has damage in one corner. Well back to the document This document indicates that the parents of Jose are Juan Antonio Gonzalez and Maria Ananstacia Hinojosa. The parents of Paula are listed as being Nicolas Garcia and Guadalupe Gonzalez, I have yet to find whom the parents of Nicolas and Guadalupe Are. Yrineo and Paula are the parents of my fourth great grandmother Tomasa Gonzalez. Continue reading
The following is the 1846 death record of my 6th great grandfather Juan Antonio Gonzalez whom was married to Anastacia Hinojosa. He was burried in Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The cause of death listed is “various accidents due to old age”. Unfortunately this document does not list his age but was married in 1781 so this puts him around 70 or more years old. He was the son of Nicolas Gonzalez and Ana Josefa Garcia.
