1804 Baptism of Jose Rafael Salinas
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This is the June 17, 1804 baptism of Jose Rafael Salinas who was baptized in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He is the 4th great-grandfather of my wife.

His baptism is a great example of how it is always better to look for the record and not to just rely on an index entry. I first came across his baptism date on the SAGA Baptism book for Camargo. The index book only had "1804" as his baptism date.

I took a trip to UTRGV (The University of the Rio Grande Valley) located in Edinburg, Texas. I found copies of the baptims register under the Camargo Archives collection. I went page by page until I found the record.

Turns out that he was baptized on June 17, 1804 and was eight days old putting his birth date as June 9, 1804.

His parents are Juan Jose Salinas and Maria Josefa Villarreal. Jose Rafael grows up to marry Maria Dolores Flores. You can view their descendants and ancestors on Las Villas del Norte Database here: https://lasvillasdelnorte.com/database/

Here is the transcription of the record.
