The following is the 1788 baptism of my 5th great grandfather, through my maternal side, Jose Eugenio Canales Salinas. He was the son of Juan Francisco Javier Canales de la Garza and Maria Gertrudis Salinas Garcia.

De la Villa Joseph Eugenio Canales Espnol 

En esta Villa de la Purisima Concepcion de Mier en veinte y uno dias de el mes de Henero de Mil setecientos, ochenta y ocho Yo Fr Pedro Maldo. y Zapata como Ministro Bauptise Solemnemente puse los Santos Oleos, y Chrisma a un Ynfante Espanol de Siete dias de nacido a quien puse por nombre Joseph Eugenio Hijo legitimo de Franco. Canales y Maria Gertrudis Salinas. Fueron los Padrinos Joseph Vela, y su Esposa Maria Gertrudis Barrera Espanoles y a quienes adverti su obligacion, y parentesco Espiritual. todos son vecinos de esta Villa y para que conste lo firme en esta dicha Villa, dicho dia, mes, y ano ut Supra.
