This 228-page volume documents seven generations of descendants of Bartholome Jiménez de Cisneros and Ana Cantú del Río y la Cerda. Bartholome is widely recognized as the progenitor of the Cisneros surname in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Texas. The genealogical material presented here spans from the early 1700s through the early 1900s, making this work an essential resource for anyone researching the Cisneros family in Northeastern Mexico and South Texas.
Who Was Bartholome Jiménez de Cisneros?
Bartholome was born around the 1680s, although his exact place of birth remains unknown. To date, no definitive record has been found identifying his parents. It is possible that he is the same Bartholome who fathered Juan José Antonio Cisneros with María Mariana Villegas. That son later settled in present-day Camargo, Tamaulipas, during the 1750s; however, his line is not included in this work.
Unfortunately, little published documentation exists about Bartholome himself. His name appears only a handful of times in the notarial protocols of Monterrey, and records indicate that he died prior to August 26, 1757.
Marriage to Ana Cantú del Río y la Cerda
On January 29, 1713, at the Sagrario Metropolitano in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Bartholome married Ana Cantú del Río y la Cerda, daughter of Gerónimo Cantú and Beatriz de Villarreal. Together, they had fourteen children, establishing a lineage that would spread throughout Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Texas.
Seven Generations of Cisneros Descendants
To date, I have identified and documented 2,150 descendants of Bartholome and Ana. This volume presents the first seven generations, all carefully verified through available historical and archival records. The documented lines trace the expansion of the Cisneros surname across Northeastern Mexico and into Texas during the Spanish colonial and Mexican national periods.
A Verified Genealogical Resource for Cisneros Family Research
It is my sincere hope that this book serves as a valuable resource for your genealogical research. While every effort has been made to include accurate citations for each fact, this work is intended as a research tool. I encourage you to consult the original records and verify each source independently.
By providing detailed citations, this volume allows you to trace the documentary evidence and locate the original parish, notarial, and civil records more efficiently—strengthening your own Cisneros family history research.
Keep in mind, this book as all my others are only tools to help you build your tree. Once you discover a death date, baptism date, and or marriage date get a copy of the original. It is very rewarding to do so and you will learn more details about your ancestors.
Also this book does not include every descendant of theirs since that is impossible, it only includes the ones that I have identified through documents, reliable published, and unpublished works.
