Escamilla - Last Names of Nuevo Leon
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This book explores the genealogy of Francisco Pérez de Escamilla and Leonor de Ayala, tracing seven generations of their descendants. Francisco, born around 1630 in El Nuevo Reino de León, is recognized as the founder of the Escamilla surname in Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Texas. Covering records from the mid-1600s to the late 1800s, this book is an invaluable resource for those researching Mexican and Texas genealogy.

Francisco’s father, also named Francisco Pérez de Escamilla, and his uncle Diego Pérez de Escamilla, came from Tepetitlán, Hidalgo, Mexico. The earliest documented record of his father dates back to 1636 in Monterrey, suggesting he likely arrived in Nuevo Reino de León before that year. His father passed away before 1661, and that same year, Francisco and his siblings petitioned for an appraisal of their father’s estate.

During the 17th century, Francisco Pérez de Escamilla was a prominent landowner, encomendero, and legal witness in Nuevo Reino de León. He owned land in Cadereyta and was actively involved in land transactions, legal proceedings, and judicial testimonies. His contributions helped shape the region’s colonial expansion, agriculture, and property development. His influence and family connections played a crucial role in the growth of Monterrey and surrounding areas.

Keep in mind, this book as all my others are only tools to help you build your tree. Once you discover a death date, baptism date, and or marriage date get a copy of the original. It is very rewarding to do so and you will learn more details about your ancestors.

Also this book does not include every descendant of theirs since that is impossible, it only includes the ones that I have identified through documents, reliable published, and unpublished works.
