Last Names of Nuevo Leon

On May the 1st I received an email from Amparo Montes with the Nuevo Santander Genealogical Conference letting me know more information about their May meeting. Attached to her email was a flyer containing more information on the upcoming 36th Annual Texas State Hispanic Genealogical and Historical Conference that will be hosted by the Villa de San Agustin de Laredo Genealogical Society.

See You in Laredo

Hotel and Room Rates

The conference will be at La Posada Hotel located at 1000 Zaragoza St., in Laredo Texas and will be form October the eight through the tenth. The rooms are $99.00 each and can fit 1 to 4 people and breakfast is included. I called to make my reservation but the receptionist stated that she had not heard about the conference so I had to book the room at the regular price of $119.00 per night. I was advised to call back on Monday to speak to Mara Maldonado for the special rate.

Conference Registration

The fee to register is $75.00 per person if made before September the 1st and afterwards it will be $85.00. I have yet to send in my registration form.

Schedule

Thursday: 7PM- 9PM Cine Mejicano

Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM- Las Villas del Norte Tour- Roma, Zapata, San Ygnacio (Includes bus, museum entrance fee, lunch, and the Genealogical Walking Laredo Tour) (DEADLINE September 1, 2015; Limited space.) Comfortable clothing, short walks) This has an additional cost of $45.00 per person.

Saturday: 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM-Banquet- La Posada Hotel . This has an additional $45.00 per person.

As you can see this is very confusing. Since it does not mention what is going to happen on Thursday all day before the Cine Mejicano nor on Saturday before the banquet. I am assuming that those two days will be for speakers but I am not sure.

  1. Thank you & how interesting this genealogy event will be, wishing I could make this event & grateful to receive these events updates notices. Also, I have done my dna testing with familytreeDna & ancestryDna I em connected with many DNA cousin’s through ancestryDNA & familytreedna. My maternal haplogrope is: A” & my paternal dna through my youngest brother whom we share the same father, his Y-DNA is: R-M17 & my mother paternal Y-DNA is R-M512 from different parts of Mexico therefore I’m learning my genealogy slowly & enjoying as I explore my DNA in different parts of Mexico & USA therefore I’m delighted when I get these notices on exploring genealogy. Thank you & hope to continue receiving these notices. Rosa Maria Garcia Ordonez

    1. Rosa it is great that you are researching your genealogy. Also glad that you have done more on your DNA side than what I have done myself. DNA is a great area of interest to me. Well take care.

  2. I have done my DNA also on Ancestry, 23andme, gedmatch and FTDNA. Seeking my Garza/Garcia connection! was adopted and this is my paternal line. I found my entire maternal line through research and DNA 4th cousin matches- now I’m hoping for the same luck with the other side. I do now know that my paternal 4th great-grandparents were John Haden Allen and Margaret Lackey Allen. Then my 3rd greats were George Allen and his wife, Elizabeth Gattis Allen. From there, I am still working through- but this is the point that the Irish line would have crossed into the Garza/Garcia ( possibly Weaver, Galvan, Leal, Trevino, on and on with names!) Spaniard/Mexican line- most likely, I strongly believe, with their child Raleigh Farris Allen and possibly a wife or other who was a full-blooded Mexican/Native American….into names like Garza, Guerra, and many more. I hope you will help if you know anything at all. I have a large tree on Ancestry.com that I have spent months building, researching records, documents, the many census records, and talking to DNA matches. Hope I find some cousins! Hilary
