Civil Marriage of Eulalio Garza Lopez and Dominga Marroquin Gonzalez at Rancho Viejo, Tamaulipas, Mexico

Dominga Marroquin and Eulalio Garza about 1980’s

Yesterday I was once again going through the Tamaulipas Civil Registration at FamilySearch when I noticed that Miguel Aleman was listed. I thought to myself what can possibly be there since most records are up to the 1930’s and Miguel Aleman was not made into a municipality until the 1950’s. We I’ll admit I was surprised that I found the marriage records for Congregacion Arcabuz from 1930 to 1950. All other records listed there deaths from 1930 to 2002. So the first thing I thought of was looking for my grandparents Eulalio Garza (baptism, birth) and Dominga Lopez (baptism) marriage record since my father does not remember when or where they got married.

My fathers eldest brother Horacio Garza was born in July 6, 1941 so naturally I assumed that they must have had gotten married at least nine months prior. A quick search turned up the following documents. Turns out that they got married at Rancho Viejo back in September 26, 1940. What a great way to end this year!

Ofelia Garza Lopez, 1927 Civil Registration Births of Congregacion Arcabuz Tamaulipas Mexico

The following death record is that of my grandfather’s sister, Ofelia Garza Lopez was my. At the cemetery of Los Trevinos, Tamaulipas, Mexico I had found Ofelia’s tombstone with a death date of September 15, 1944. The following document indicates that she was born on the 29th of October 1924. So she was 19 years old when she died. At this time she was already married. I need to ask my father to see if he heard anything in respect as to her short life.

Eulalio Garza Lopez, 1927 Civil Registration Births of Congregacion Arcabuz Tamaulipas Mexico

As you all know, due to my last three posts, I have been transcribing the Birth Index from 1925 to 1930 of Congregacion Arcabuz, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Well in the 1927 I found three names too familiar to discard. They were Luciano, Eulalio, and Ofelia Garza. Eulalio is my paternal grandfather and Luciano his brother and Ofelia his sister. I never thought I would find my grandfather in this index since he was born in 1917. It can safely be assumed that the Mexican Revolution may have disturbed their daily lives. Specially anything that had to do with government or maybe Mier was just too far away. But why 1927 why not before, I guess this question will be unanswered. It is interesting to note that the document indicates as them being vecinos (neighbors) of Congregacion Arcabuz. They were probably already residing at Rancho El Ebanito, a good five to 8 miles away. Also let me note that Eulalio’s baptism document indicates that he was born in 1919, but I’ll go with the Civil Registration birth since I believe it to be more acurate. Before I continue to the 1928 Index here is the Image and transcription to Eulalio’s Civil Registration.

First Head Stone of Eusebio Garza Lopez

This picture is of the first head stone, Eusebio Garza Lopez, my great-grandfather had from the time of his burial in June of 1947 all up until the death of his wife Paula Lopez in December of 1975. The head stone was removed and moved to an old Jacal at Rancho El Ebanito where it remains up to this date. The reason for removing it, is that the family bought both of them matching monuments. I’ll be posting those pictures at a later date.

The Head stone reads “Eusebio Garza Nacio En Agosto 14 1883 Fallecio Junio 4 1947 Dedican Este Recuerdo su Esposa E Hijos“. (Eusebio Garza born on August 14, 1883 Died June 4 1947 His Wife and Children dedicate this Memory).

I remember that as a child I would always see this headstone and be amazed. My mind would start wondering about many things. How was his life? Soon I wanted to learn more and I am lucky that I have.

Eusebio’s parents are Jose Martin Garza Garcia and Maria Ruperta Lopez Garza. He was also the husband of Paula Lopez Garza.
